How it plays

How does Sargon III play?

The game uses a top-down chessboard perspective. Players select pieces, choose legal destinations, and alternate turns according to standard chess rules. The main objective is to checkmate the opposing king, while stalemate, resignation, and other chess results can end a game.

A player can generally compete against the computer or arrange a human-versus-human game. Progress is measured through the position on the board and the selected computer strength, not through levels, items, or a persistent campaign.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Sargon III?

Develop pieces early, control the center, and castle when it is safe. Avoid moving the same piece repeatedly during the opening unless there is a concrete reason.

Against the computer, examine forcing moves first: checks, captures, and direct threats. Before committing to a move, verify that the destination is not attacked and look for the opponent's strongest reply.
