Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a map-based, overhead perspective and divides play into turns. Players direct military units, maneuver toward objectives, engage opposing forces, and manage the broader situation represented by each scenario.
Scenarios provide structured battlefields with different objectives and force arrangements. Progress comes from completing those objectives and making better operational decisions; the available missions, campaign structure, and detailed victory conditions may vary by scenario.
Plan your run
Study the scenario objectives before moving units. Preserve a coherent front, use terrain when possible, and avoid exposing isolated formations to unnecessary attacks.
Plan several turns ahead rather than advancing every unit immediately. Keep important units supplied and reserve enough strength to respond to an enemy breakthrough or changing objective.
Before you begin
Read the scenario briefing carefully and treat positioning as more important than rapid movement.
Scenario: Theatre of War is a historical, turn-based wargame developed and published by Strategic Studies Group for DOS. It focuses on operational and tactical military decision-making rather than arcade-style combat. Players command forces in World War II scenarios, assigning movement, attacks, and other battlefield actions across a map. The game is built for deliberate planning, with terrain, unit position, objectives, and supply affecting the outcome. Its presentation is functional and information-heavy, reflecting the computer wargame tradition of the early 1990s. Reception has generally centered on its depth and serious simulation, while its complexity and dated interface can make it demanding for newcomers.
