Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a map-based, top-down perspective and focuses on turn-by-turn operations across the Eastern Front. The main objective is to achieve the scenario’s military goals by moving formations, selecting attacks, protecting supply lines, and managing the effects of terrain and weather.
Scenarios divide the campaign into successive turns rather than conventional action-game levels. Players plan movement and combat, resolve engagements, then respond to the opposing side’s operations. Progress comes from securing objectives and preserving effective forces; reckless advances can leave units isolated or unable to maintain momentum.
Plan your run
Keep supply routes open before making deep advances, and avoid treating every possible attack as worthwhile. Concentrate forces against exposed positions, use terrain to limit counterattacks, and preserve strong formations for later turns. Weather and distance can make a successful-looking offensive collapse if its logistical base is neglected.
Second Front: Germany Turns East is a DOS historical wargame centered on Germany’s invasion of the Soviet Union during the Second World War. It presents the Eastern Front as a deliberate, operational-level strategy challenge rather than an action game. Players manage military formations, movement, combat, supply, and the changing seasonal conditions that shaped the campaign. The game is designed for players who enjoy careful planning, map reading, and historical what-if analysis. Its subject matter and rules-heavy presentation give it a specialized audience, while the campaign’s scale makes it a useful period example of serious computer wargaming. Outcomes depend more on logistics and long-term decisions than on reflexes.
