How it plays
The game uses a two-dimensional side view. Yoh explores connected areas, defeats spirits and other enemies, collects items, and searches for new abilities that unlock routes and hidden rooms.
Progression is based on exploration and boss encounters. Guardian spirits provide different combat or movement functions, while maps and revisited locations encourage backtracking. The adventure is primarily single-player and follows a fixed story campaign.
Plan your run
Explore every branch before moving on, because new spirit abilities often turn earlier dead ends into routes or item locations.
Use the most suitable guardian spirit for each enemy and keep room layouts in mind when returning after a boss fight. Save healing items for difficult encounters rather than spending them on ordinary enemies.

Shaman King: Master of Spirits is a side-scrolling action-adventure game developed by Natsume for the Game Boy Advance and published by Konami. It is based on Hiroyuki Takei’s Shaman King franchise and follows Yoh Asakura as he investigates a supernatural threat. The game combines platforming, exploration, melee combat, and ability-based progression in a Metroidvania-style structure. Yoh can call on guardian spirits and gradually gain powers that open previously inaccessible paths. Its compact exploration-focused design was generally regarded as a solid handheld adaptation, although critics noted repetition and limited variety compared with larger console adventures.
