Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a top-down map of undeveloped and developed land. Players place residential, commercial, and industrial zones, then connect them with roads, rail, power lines, and power plants.
Growth depends on electricity, transportation, taxes, public services, and the changing needs of the population. Police, fire, stadiums, parks, and other facilities affect city conditions. Players can use free-form play or select scenarios based on disasters and urban problems, then monitor reports and charts to guide later decisions.
Plan your run
Start with a compact road network and keep zones close to power and transportation. Avoid covering every tile with roads; excessive road spending and traffic can slow growth.
Expand utilities and public services as demand rises rather than spending the entire budget early. Use taxes, city reports, and the map overlays to identify pollution, crime, fire risk, and weak transit links before rezoning large areas.
Before you begin
Pause frequently while planning expensive infrastructure.
Use map overlays and budget reports to find problems instead of guessing.
Keep industrial areas separated from homes when possible to reduce pollution.
SimCity is a city-building simulation developed and published by Maxis. The player acts as mayor, laying out roads and zones, providing public services, and guiding a settlement from a small town into a functioning city. Its open-ended play style has no single required victory condition; success depends on managing growth, budgets, traffic, pollution, crime, and public approval. The DOS version brought the influential design to IBM-compatible personal computers. SimCity was widely praised for making systems management accessible and for establishing city-building simulation as a major computer-game genre, although its unstructured format can feel demanding to players who prefer clearly defined missions.
