Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views the maze from above and guides a small character through corridors filled with snipes and enemy nests. The main objective is to survive, clear hostile creatures, and destroy the nests before the growing population overwhelms the play area.
Movement and shooting are direct, with the maze providing the principal tactical challenge. The game is structured around repeated combat in increasingly dangerous situations rather than a story campaign, and its multiplayer design allows players on a network to cooperate or compete within the same hostile environment.
Plan your run
Destroy nests as soon as the route is safe; leaving them active allows more snipes to appear and can cut off escape paths.
Use corridors and corners to control enemy approach, and avoid moving into unexplored areas when several enemies are already nearby. In multiplayer, coordinate who clears enemies and who attacks nests.
Snipes is an early DOS action game developed by SuperSet Software in 1982. It combines maze navigation with top-down shooting: players move through a text-mode labyrinth, destroy hostile snipes, and eliminate the nests that produce them. The game is notable for its network-oriented multiplayer design and is often cited as an important ancestor of later network shooters. Its presentation is extremely spare, but the pressure created by spawning enemies and shared objectives gives each session a tense, tactical character. Historical reception is mainly tied to its technical importance rather than audiovisual polish.
