How it plays
The games use a side-view perspective and divide the adventure into themed Zones made up of platforming Acts, usually followed by a boss encounter. The objective is to reach each Act's goal while surviving hazards, collecting Rings, and finding routes through ramps, springs, loops, and moving platforms.
Sonic can run, jump, roll, and use Spin Dash techniques; depending on the game, Tails and Knuckles provide different movement abilities. Progress is organized separately for the four included titles, with special stages and Chaos Emerald challenges offering additional goals.
Plan your run
Learn the layout of each Act before prioritizing speed. Rings provide protection from most damage, so carrying at least one is often more valuable than taking a risky shortcut.
Explore alternate routes and keep an eye out for checkpoints, monitors, and hidden entrances. In Sonic 3 & Knuckles, use character-specific abilities to reach paths and items unavailable to the other characters.

Sonic Classic Collection is a Nintendo DS compilation developed by Backbone Entertainment and published by Sega. It contains Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and Sonic & Knuckles, preserving the fast side-scrolling platforming of the original 16-bit releases. Players guide Sonic and selected allies through loop-filled stages, collecting Rings, defeating enemies, and confronting Dr. Eggman. The collection was received as a convenient portable version of important Sonic games, although reviewers also noted technical limitations and occasional presentation issues compared with the original hardware.
