How it plays
Sonic runs through side-scrolling stages, collecting Rings, avoiding hazards, defeating enemies, and reaching the goal. Acts include platforming sections, fast slopes, springs, loops, and alternate routes that reward exploration.
Wisps grant temporary abilities such as drilling through terrain or becoming a laser that can ricochet between points. The campaign is organized into themed areas with multiple acts and boss stages, while medals and collectibles encourage replay. A two-player race mode provides competitive courses separate from the main adventure.
Plan your run
Learn which Color Power belongs to each route before replaying an act. Wisps are often more valuable for reaching alternate paths and collectibles than for defeating ordinary enemies.
Keep a reserve of Rings before fast sections and boss encounters. Explore after clearing immediate hazards, since hidden routes and medals are commonly placed away from the main line.

Sonic Colors for Nintendo DS is a 2D platform game developed by Dimps and published by Sega. Sonic investigates Dr. Eggman’s interstellar amusement park, where alien Wisps are being exploited to power the attraction. The game combines traditional side-scrolling movement with temporary Color Powers that change how Sonic traverses stages and reaches hidden routes. Its campaign mixes standard acts, boss encounters, and shorter challenge content, with a separate multiplayer mode. The DS version was generally praised for responsive movement, inventive level design, and its strong use of Wisps, while some critics found its presentation and story less substantial than the Wii version.
