How it plays
The game is presented from a third-person perspective with animated, single-screen scenes. Roger explores the Xenon Orbital Station and later other locations, collects objects, talks to characters, and enters commands such as examining, taking, using, or talking.
Progression is mostly puzzle-based. The player must discover useful items, interpret environmental clues, and solve situations in the correct order. The game includes dangerous areas and many possible deaths, so saving frequently is important. There is no combat system or character-level progression.
Plan your run
Save before entering unfamiliar rooms, trying an unusual command, or approaching an apparently dangerous object.

Before you begin
The parser accepts short, simple commands more reliably than elaborate sentences.
Frequent saving is essential because hazards can cause sudden deaths.
If a puzzle seems impossible, inspect the room and inventory again before moving on.
Space Quest I: The Sarien Encounter is a science-fiction graphic adventure developed and published by Sierra On-Line. It introduces Roger Wilco, an ordinary janitor who becomes the last survivor of a space-station disaster and is drawn into a conflict involving the Sariens and a dangerous military device. The game uses Sierra’s text-parser adventure format, combining typed commands with keyboard movement and animated scenes. Exploration, humor, inventory puzzles, and frequent hazards define the experience. Its parody of science-fiction films and deliberately absurd deaths helped establish Space Quest as one of Sierra’s best-known comedy adventure series, although its parser and trial-and-error design can feel demanding to modern players.
