How it plays
The player explores first-person maze levels, searches for the exit, collects treasure, opens secret areas, and eliminates guards, mutants, and supernatural enemies. Movement is based on four-directional travel with weapon aiming aligned to the player’s facing direction.
A campaign is divided into episodes and levels, with weapons, ammunition, health, armor, and score carrying the familiar Wolfenstein-style progression. The final stages emphasize boss encounters rather than complex environmental mechanics. There is no multiplayer mode in the original DOS release.
Plan your run
Conserve ammunition by using the pistol on isolated low-level guards and reserve stronger weapons for clustered enemies, mutants, and bosses. Search rooms carefully for secret push walls, treasure, ammunition, and health supplies.
Learn patrol patterns before opening doors, avoid standing in doorways, and use corners to break enemy lines of fire. Save before major encounters when possible, since later levels combine narrow spaces with durable enemies.

Spear of Destiny is a first-person shooter developed by id Software and published by FormGen for DOS in 1992. It serves as a follow-up to Wolfenstein 3D, placing agent William "B.J." Blazkowicz in a fictional mission to recover the Spear of Destiny from a Nazi stronghold. The game uses maze-like, grid-based levels viewed from a first-person perspective, with fast shooting, secret rooms, treasure, and enemy patrols as its core components. Its technology and controls closely follow Wolfenstein 3D, but the campaign offers a new set of levels and several tougher encounters. Contemporary and later reception generally recognized it as a solid expansion-style continuation, while noting that it added less structural variety than later id Software shooters.
