How it plays
The game uses a side-on perspective. Players guide the active character through platforming stages, moving across Bikini Bottom locations, jumping over hazards, attacking enemies, and collecting useful items.
Stages contain checkpoints, secret areas, environmental obstacles, and boss encounters. Progression comes from clearing levels and advancing through the story, with different playable characters and abilities used to reach or pass particular sections.
Plan your run
Learn each character’s attack range before entering crowded areas, and avoid rushing into enemies from the side. Explore platforms above and below the main route because collectibles and safer paths are often placed away from the obvious line.
Use checkpoints as preparation points for difficult sections, preserve health before boss encounters, and switch to the character whose ability best matches the obstacle rather than forcing a single approach.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by AWE Games and published by THQ for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It adapts the console game’s premise into a portable adventure in which SpongeBob and his friends defend Bikini Bottom from a robot threat created by Plankton. Players explore themed stages, defeat enemies, collect items, and use character-specific abilities to overcome obstacles. The GBA version is structurally different from the 3D console releases, presenting a more compact 2D experience designed around short handheld stages. It received generally mixed-to-positive attention as a licensed platform game, with its faithful cartoon presentation and accessible play receiving the most favorable comments.
