How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective across linear platforming stages based on locations from the film. SpongeBob and Patrick move through environments, jump across platforms, attack enemies, collect useful items, and avoid environmental hazards.
Stages contain checkpoints, hidden areas, collectibles, and boss encounters. Progression follows the movie’s adventure, with new areas opening as completed stages advance the story. The two heroes provide different ways to handle selected obstacles and enemies.
Plan your run
Explore each stage instead of rushing toward the exit. Hidden paths often contain useful items and extra rewards.
Learn enemy timing before attacking, and use checkpoints to reduce the cost of failed jumps or boss attempts. When playing as different characters, test their movement and attack ranges before entering hazardous sections.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie for Game Boy Advance is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by WayForward Technologies and published by THQ in 2004. It follows SpongeBob and Patrick as they travel across Bikini Bottom and beyond to recover King Neptune’s stolen crown and rescue Mr. Krabs from danger. The game adapts the broad story and characters of the theatrical film while presenting them in a compact handheld format. Players explore linear stages, defeat enemies, collect items, and use character abilities to overcome obstacles. Its colorful presentation, responsive controls, and varied level design were generally well regarded, although its short length and relatively straightforward challenge limited its appeal for some players.
