Commander Hayes
Commander of the starbase at Earth and an important source of fleet support, crew, and strategic information.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down galactic map for exploration and a first-person text-and-dialogue interface for encounters. Players travel between stars, scan planets, land to gather resources, visit alien worlds, and make choices that affect alliances and available information.
Combat switches to a real-time arena in which two selected spacecraft circle a planet while using weapons, thrust, special abilities, and limited energy. Progress depends on upgrading the flagship, recruiting ships, managing fuel and crew, and following clues toward the central conflict.
Plan your run
Explore methodically and record star systems, because many quests depend on returning to places after learning new information. Gather minerals, but avoid spending excessive fuel on unplanned detours.
Recruit useful allies early, preserve crew during combat, and learn each ship's special ability. Save before major conversations and before entering dangerous systems, since some choices and encounters are difficult to reverse.

Developed by Toys for Bob and published by Accolade, Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters is a science-fiction space adventure that blends role-playing, strategy, exploration, and arcade-style combat. The player commands a small starship and works to resist the expanding Ur-Quan empire while uncovering the history of the galaxy and recruiting alien allies. Its open-ended structure, memorable species, extensive dialogue, and tactical ship duels made it one of the most ambitious computer games of its era. The DOS release received strong historical praise for its writing, humor, freedom of exploration, and unusually rich world-building.
