How it plays
Players move through side-scrolling stages in Subcon, defeating enemies and reaching the level goal. The game is divided into numbered worlds, each containing several areas and a boss encounter.
The four selectable characters differ in running speed, jumping, strength, and floating ability. Players pull vegetables and other objects from the ground, carry or throw them at enemies, and search for potions that reveal temporary dark rooms containing bonus items.
After completing the main adventure, an additional Yoshi challenge becomes available. Progress depends on clearing stages, collecting items, and defeating bosses rather than gaining conventional experience levels.
Plan your run
Choose the character whose abilities suit the terrain. Luigi and Peach are useful for long vertical gaps, while Toad is effective when rapid lifting and throwing are important. Mario is the safest general-purpose choice.
Search platforms and grass carefully for vegetables, mushrooms, potions, and hidden rooms. Save throwable objects for enemy groups or bosses, and use the potion’s dark room to collect coins and other rewards before returning to the main path.

Super Mario Advance is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Nintendo R&D2 and released for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. It is a remake of the Western version of Super Mario Bros. 2, presenting Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad in a dreamlike adventure against Wart and the residents of Subcon. Each character has distinct movement and jumping abilities, so choosing the right hero affects how levels are approached. The game combines traditional platforming with vertical exploration, object throwing, and vegetable-based combat. It was well received for bringing a polished version of the NES-era game to Nintendo’s handheld, while also adding updated graphics, voice effects, and a Yoshi-focused bonus challenge.
