How it plays

How does Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation play?

Missions are viewed from an overhead, grid-based perspective. The player deploys a selected roster of robots, moves them across terrain, attacks enemy units, and completes objectives such as defeating a target or surviving an encounter.

Units use ranged and melee weapons with different ammunition, energy, range, and terrain requirements. Pilots gain experience, learn or improve skills, and raise morale during combat. Intermission screens allow the player to inspect machines, equip weapons, adjust upgrades, and organize the next deployment.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Super Robot Taisen: Original Generation?

Check weapon range, terrain compatibility, and ammunition before committing to an attack. Keep fragile units away from isolated enemies, and use support attacks or combined attacks when available to improve damage efficiency.

Raise morale and experience on safer turns, but avoid unnecessary exposure to counterattacks. Upgrade a small group of dependable units first, while preserving enough energy and ammunition for bosses and scripted reinforcements.

Editorial context

What do players highlight?

A strong handheld tactical RPG with original mecha designs, memorable pilots, and substantial story scenes.

Its systems are rewarding, but the large amount of Japanese text and the slow pace may not suit every player.
