How it plays
Battles use a grid-based, turn-based perspective. The player moves robots, selects attacks, manages weapons and energy, and chooses whether units defend, evade, or counter when attacked. Objectives commonly include destroying enemy formations, protecting important units, or reaching a specified condition.
The campaign is divided into story stages with conversations between missions. Pilots gain experience, robots can be upgraded with credits, and Spirit Commands provide temporary advantages such as improved accuracy, damage, or morale. The route and available units can vary with story decisions and the selected protagonist.
Plan your run
Concentrate upgrades on a reliable core instead of spreading credits across every unit. Improve weapons on units that can attack consistently, while strengthening armor or mobility according to their role.
Check enemy weapon ranges before moving and use terrain for defense. Build morale before difficult attacks, combine Spirit Commands with high-damage weapons, and keep support-capable units close enough to rescue damaged allies.
Save before major story battles when possible. Some missions impose protection or survival conditions, so destroying every enemy is not always the only objective.

Super Robot Wars: Original Generation is a turn-based tactical role-playing game developed and published by Banpresto for the Game Boy Advance. It brings together original characters and mecha from several Super Robot Wars subseries in a single military science-fiction story. Players command allied units across grid-based battlefields, combining pilots, weapons, terrain, and spirit commands to defeat enemy forces. Unlike many entries in the wider franchise, it does not rely on licensed anime characters, making it a self-contained introduction to Banpresto’s original setting. The game was well received in Japan for its substantial campaign, accessible strategy systems, and strong presentation within the handheld’s limits. Its later English release also helped establish Original Generation as a distinct branch of the franchise.
