Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Tangled Tales uses a top-down exploration format with role-playing and adventure elements. The player moves through a series of fantasy locations, investigates the environment, talks to characters, gathers items, and responds to threats through combat.
Progress depends on exploring carefully and using items or information in the appropriate places. Encounters and battles support character advancement, while the changing areas and story objectives provide the overall structure. The game rewards experimentation, but its period interface can make navigation and puzzle solutions less immediately clear.
Plan your run
Explore each area methodically and revisit locations after acquiring new items or information. Important progress may depend on examining objects and speaking with seemingly minor inhabitants.
Keep useful equipment instead of discarding unfamiliar objects, and save before entering dangerous areas or attempting an uncertain interaction. In combat, avoid unnecessary encounters when exploration or resource preservation is the safer choice.
Tangled Tales is a fantasy role-playing adventure developed and published by Interplay Productions for DOS in 1989. It places the player in a playful storybook world where familiar fairy-tale ideas are mixed with exploration, combat, puzzles, and unusual encounters. The game is presented as a light-hearted computer RPG rather than a traditional heroic epic. Players travel through connected areas, speak with inhabitants, collect useful objects, and fight enemies while working toward the central quest. Its offbeat setting and humorous tone gave it a distinctive identity, although its older interface and relatively modest presentation made it more appealing to dedicated genre players than to a broad audience.
