Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game uses a first-person cockpit view from inside the selected sports car. The objective is to drive along a series of mountain-road stages, pass checkpoints, avoid civilian traffic and roadside obstacles, and finish before time runs out or the car is stopped by the police.
Players choose from five licensed cars with different performance characteristics. Steering, acceleration, braking, transmission management, and hazard awareness are central to each run. Routes become more demanding as stages continue, with tighter turns, traffic, and changing road conditions. The DOS release is primarily a single-player driving experience rather than a championship with a large progression system.
Plan your run
Choose a car whose handling matches your comfort level rather than selecting solely for top speed. Learn each road’s sequence of bends before attempting to maintain maximum speed.
Brake before entering tight turns, leave room for oncoming traffic, and avoid risky overtakes near cliffs or blind corners. Use the transmission carefully if driving manually, and prioritize reaching checkpoints safely over maintaining a perfect pace.
Before you begin
Reduce speed before blind bends and cresting hills.
Watch traffic and roadside hazards instead of focusing only on the speedometer.
Use safer overtaking opportunities on straighter sections.
Test Drive is a 1987 driving game developed by Distinctive Software and published by Accolade for DOS. It presents a first-person simulation of several licensed high-performance cars on winding mountain roads. Rather than offering a conventional circuit-racing championship, the game emphasizes the experience of controlling a powerful car through traffic, negotiating bends, and managing hazards while attempting to complete a route. Its play style combines arcade accessibility with simulation-oriented details such as different car performance, manual or automatic transmission, roadside dangers, and police pursuit. The distinctive cockpit perspective and licensed vehicles helped the game stand out in its era. Contemporary reception generally recognized Test Drive as an influential and technically ambitious home-computer racing title, although its demanding handling and limited race structure were less accessible than simpler arcade racers.
