Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views the expedition through menu-driven screens and illustrated scenes rather than direct character movement. The main objective is to reach Quito with the expedition intact while managing food, equipment, health, and travel decisions.
Players choose routes, respond to river conditions, stop at settlements, and take part in fishing, hunting, trading, and information-gathering activities. Progress depends on supplies and decisions; poor choices can delay the journey or end the expedition.
Plan your run
Buy and protect enough food and equipment for difficult stretches, but avoid spending all money early. Read descriptions of river conditions and settlements before choosing a route. Use fishing, hunting, and trading to replace supplies when possible, and prioritize safe progress over unnecessary detours.
Before you begin
Keep a reserve of food and essential equipment for remote sections.
Check local information before committing to a route or activity.
Use resource-gathering activities when supplies become scarce.
The Amazon Trail is an educational adventure and travel simulation developed and published by MECC for DOS. The player leads an expedition from Belém toward Quito, traveling along the Amazon River while learning about South American geography, wildlife, Indigenous cultures, and historical exploration. Play alternates between planning, river navigation, resource management, and short activities such as fishing, hunting, and trading. The game is designed for younger players but uses enough uncertainty and resource pressure to make each journey different. It was well regarded in schools for combining factual material with an approachable expedition format, and it became one of MECC’s recognizable geography-focused titles.
