Jake Blues
One of the Blues Brothers and the playable character in the game.
How it plays
The game uses a side-view platforming perspective. The objective is to move through linear stages, collect records and other items, avoid hazards, and reach the end of each level.
Players run, jump, climb, and use objects or thrown items to deal with enemies. Progression comes from completing successive stages; the DOS version does not present a deep character-upgrade system or multiple role-based modes.
Plan your run
Watch enemy movement before committing to a jump, especially near narrow platforms and pits.
Explore each section for collectible records, but avoid unnecessary risks when an item is surrounded by enemies or hazards. Keep a safe position before throwing objects and use the level layout to separate threats from the route forward.
Meet the cast
One of the Blues Brothers and the playable character in the game.
Jake’s brother and the other central Blues Brothers character.
Before you begin
Learn the timing of moving hazards before attempting long jumps.
Collectibles are useful targets for exploration, but survival should take priority.
Use thrown objects from a distance whenever the level provides them.
The Blues Brothers is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Titus France for DOS in 1991. It adapts the film’s musical-comedy setting into a cartoon-styled adventure starring Jake and Elwood Blues. Players guide a Blues Brother through hazardous stages while collecting items, avoiding enemies, and reaching the exit. The game is primarily a single-player experience, with straightforward running and jumping rather than complex combat. Contemporary reception was mixed: reviewers recognized the recognizable license and accessible presentation, but commonly criticized the basic mechanics, collision behavior, and uneven challenge.
