Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The game combines strategic preparation with an airborne simulation. The player plans a route toward the target, flies the Lancaster through defended airspace, manages the aircraft and crew, and attempts to release the bouncing bomb at the correct height, speed, and distance.
Progress depends on completing the mission objectives while avoiding enemy fire and preserving the aircraft. The attack is built around approach, aiming, bomb release, and assessing the result rather than a conventional series of arcade stages. Different crew or cockpit functions may need attention during the flight.
Plan your run
Plan the approach before committing to the attack, and avoid treating the mission as a simple shoot-'em-up. Maintain the required flight conditions for the special bomb and make corrections early rather than attempting a last-second adjustment.
Conserve attention for navigation, enemy threats, and the bombing run. Because the game emphasizes procedure and accuracy, repeated practice of the approach is more useful than aggressive flying.
The Dam Busters is a 1984 DOS flight simulation and strategy game developed by Sydney Development and published by US Gold. It is based on the Second World War bombing raid portrayed in the film of the same name. The player commands an Avro Lancaster crew during preparations, the approach to the target, and the attack on German dams. Its play style combines route planning, cockpit-style flight, crew management, and precision bombing rather than presenting a straightforward arcade shooter. The game was notable for attempting to model several parts of the raid within the limited hardware of contemporary home computers. Reception was mixed, with its ambition and atmosphere often recognized alongside criticism of its difficult controls and demanding simulation elements.
