Documented for this version
The DOS release uses a mouse-driven point-and-click interface.
Exact button mappings can vary by the game’s configuration and are not listed here.
How it plays
The game is viewed through illustrated, mostly fixed screens connected across Kyrandia and other locations. Zanthia explores, examines objects, talks with characters, collects ingredients, and combines items to solve environmental puzzles.
Progression is largely nonlinear within each area, but key ingredients and magical objects unlock later routes. Alchemy is central: Zanthia prepares potions and uses them to overcome hazards, manipulate the environment, and advance the story. The DOS version is controlled through a mouse-driven adventure interface.
Plan your run
Examine every new screen and collect ingredients before leaving an area. Many apparent obstacles are solved by experimenting with alchemical recipes, so keep track of what each potion does.
Avoid discarding unusual items until you are certain they have no later use. Save before trying unfamiliar combinations or entering dangerous areas, and revisit earlier locations when a newly acquired potion changes what Zanthia can do.

The Legend of Kyrandia: Hand of Fate is a fantasy graphic adventure developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive for DOS. It follows Zanthia, a young alchemist and member of Kyrandia’s magical court, as she searches for a way to save the kingdom from a spreading magical crisis. The game uses a point-and-click interface, inventory puzzles, dialogue, and hand-drawn environments rather than combat-focused action. Its humorous writing, colorful world, and approachable puzzle design were generally well received, although some players found the item combinations and backtracking demanding. It is the second game in The Legend of Kyrandia series and expands the setting with a more playful tone and a new playable heroine.
