Atreyu
The young warrior controlled by the player as he travels through Fantasia.
How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. Atreyu advances through hazardous stages, jumps across gaps and platforms, avoids or deals with enemies, and reaches the end of each section.
Progression is level-based rather than role-playing oriented. The player repeats the platforming cycle across Fantasian environments, with success depending on timing, route knowledge, and careful movement. It is a single-player arcade-style experience.
Plan your run
Learn the layout of each stage before trying to move quickly. Short, deliberate jumps are safer than long leaps when platforms or hazards are difficult to judge.
Watch enemy movement and preserve safe footing near screen transitions. Since the game is built around arcade-style repetition, memorizing hazards and successful routes is more useful than searching for role-playing upgrades.

The Neverending Story II: The Arcade Game is a licensed action platformer developed by Linel and published by Ocean Software for DOS in 1990. It is based on the film The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter and places the player in the role of Atreyu during a journey through Fantasia. The game uses side-scrolling arcade mechanics, with running, jumping, enemy avoidance, and environmental hazards forming its core play style. Its presentation follows the era's straightforward license-based computer games rather than attempting a deep adaptation of the film. Reception has generally been limited and mixed, with the game remembered mainly as an obscure DOS tie-in rather than a major platforming release.
