Players alternate turns and place one mark in an empty square. A winning line may run horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. If all nine squares are filled without a winning line, the game ends in a draw.

Control the center when possible, create two-way threats that can be completed on the next turn, and watch for opportunities to block the opponent's potential line. Against perfect play, the standard game ends in a draw.
