Captain Carnage
One of the two playable soldiers and a heavily armed fighter opposing General Akhboob.
How it plays
The action is viewed from above. Players move through scrolling battlefields, destroy enemy formations, rescue prisoners, collect weapons, and reach the end of each stage.
The available arsenal includes regular firearms, heavier weapons, and limited special attacks. Enemies arrive from multiple directions, while vehicles, environmental hazards, and bosses interrupt the advance. The arcade-style structure rewards aggressive movement and memorizing dangerous encounters.
Plan your run
Keep moving while firing, especially when enemies surround the player from several directions. Clear threats near the edges of the screen before advancing so that incoming fire has fewer angles.
Save powerful weapons and special attacks for dense formations, armored targets, and boss encounters. In cooperative play, divide firing directions and avoid standing in the same lane, since both players need room to retreat.

The game's dictator and principal antagonist.
Total Carnage is a top-down run-and-gun shooter developed by Midway Games and adapted for the Atari Jaguar from the 1992 arcade game. Players control one of two heavily armed soldiers fighting through a war-torn landscape ruled by the dictator General Akhboob. The game emphasizes constant movement, rapid shooting, explosive weapons, and crowd control rather than careful exploration. Its single-player and cooperative modes support short, intense combat stages filled with enemies, vehicles, traps, and destructible targets. The Jaguar version preserved the arcade game's frantic design and humor, although contemporary reception was mixed because of visual compromises and technical limitations compared with the original arcade hardware.
