How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective across urban stages. Spider-Man moves through levels by jumping, attacking, using webs, and navigating platforms, while Venom relies more heavily on close-range strength and destructive attacks.
The campaign alternates between the two characters and includes combat encounters, environmental obstacles, and boss battles. Progression is primarily stage-based, with new story sections unlocked by completing missions.
Plan your run
Use Spider-Man’s mobility to control distance, reach elevated platforms, and avoid crowded fights. His web abilities are most useful for disrupting enemies and handling traversal sections.
Switch to Venom when brute force is more effective. Stay aware of incoming attacks during his slower movements, and learn boss patterns instead of relying only on repeated strikes.
Meet the cast

Eddie Brock as Venom, a powerful rival with symbiote-based strength and destructive attacks.
Before you begin
Use Spider-Man for mobility and Venom for heavy combat.
Explore each stage carefully before moving on; platform routes can hide useful items.
Against bosses, prioritize learning attack timing over constant attacking.
Ultimate Spider-Man is a 2005 action platformer for Nintendo DS, developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision. Based on Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man continuity, it follows Spider-Man and Venom as their conflict develops across New York City. The DS version presents a compact side-scrolling adventure with combat, traversal, and character switching rather than the open-world structure used by some other versions. Players alternate between Spider-Man’s agility and web abilities and Venom’s heavier, more destructive attacks. Reviews generally recognized its energetic presentation and varied playable characters, while criticizing its short length and limited depth compared with larger Spider-Man games.
