How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Van Helsing advances through linear stages, defeats supernatural enemies, avoids hazards, and reaches an end-of-level encounter or objective.
Players can run, jump, attack with melee weapons, and use ranged weapons when available. Progression comes from completing stages, acquiring equipment, and overcoming stronger enemies and bosses rather than from a role-playing skill tree.
Levels are played as a single-player campaign with platforming sections, combat arenas, environmental obstacles, and cinematic encounters based on the film.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack patterns before committing to melee attacks, especially against werewolves and larger creatures. Short, controlled attacks are safer than standing beside an enemy and repeatedly striking.
Conserve ranged ammunition for bosses and dangerous groups. Use the edges of platforms to control enemy spacing, and search each area for health or weapon pickups before moving into a major encounter.
During platforming sections, advance carefully and wait for moving hazards to complete a cycle. Bosses are generally easier when you prioritize survival and attack only during clear openings.

Van Helsing is a 2004 action platformer developed by Saffire and published by 2K Games for the Game Boy Advance. It adapts the 2004 film and follows the legendary monster hunter as he travels through Transylvania to stop Count Dracula and protect Anna Valerious. The game combines side-scrolling exploration with close-range combat, firearms, jumping challenges, and boss encounters. Players move through levels inspired by the film, fighting vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural enemies while collecting weapons and useful items. Its compact stages and straightforward controls suited the handheld format. Reception was mixed: critics generally recognized its faithful movie setting and accessible action, while repetitive combat and limited depth reduced its long-term appeal.
