Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player views the landscape from behind a hovering craft and flies over fields, water, and other terrain. The main objective is to stop the virus before it spreads across the environment and produces increasingly dangerous organisms.
Spraying infected ground slows or removes the threat, but flight is sensitive and collisions can destroy the craft. Enemy forms and environmental hazards increase the pressure as a level continues. Progress depends on controlling the outbreak and surviving each stage rather than simply reaching a destination.
Plan your run
Keep the craft moving in broad, controlled passes rather than making abrupt turns. Treat infected areas early, because allowing the virus to spread creates more dangerous targets and reduces safe space.
Stay aware of altitude and terrain while spraying. Avoid chasing every threat immediately; preserving control and returning to a manageable part of the landscape is often safer than flying aggressively into crowded areas.
Before you begin
Work methodically across infected areas instead of zigzagging without a plan.
Use a safe altitude when repositioning, then descend carefully to treat the landscape.
Prioritize containment and survival over chasing every moving enemy.
Zarch is an action-strategy game designed by David Braben and published for DOS by Virgin Games. The player pilots a hovering craft above a three-dimensional landscape while containing an expanding airborne virus. Its unusual combination of free-flight control, landscape management, and escalating enemy threats gives it a distinctive place in early 3D computer gaming. The game is played from behind the craft, with the terrain rendered as a moving polygonal landscape. Players must balance spraying infected areas, avoiding hazards, and preserving the countryside. Zarch was noted for its demanding controls, distinctive visual presentation, and technical ambition, and it is closely associated with the game later released under the name Virus on other systems.
