Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
Battles use a top-down tactical perspective on grid-based maps. Players issue orders to individual units, maneuver through terrain, attack opposing forces, and work toward scenario-specific objectives such as destroying enemy formations or holding key locations.
The game is organized around prepared scenarios and custom battles. Victory depends on positioning, line of sight, weapon range, unit capability, and careful use of movement and fire rather than reflexes.
The construction tools allow players to alter battlefield layouts and define opposing forces and other scenario parameters, then play and refine the resulting engagement.
Plan your run
Use terrain and range to limit enemy return fire, and avoid exposing isolated units without support. Reconnaissance and deliberate movement are more reliable than advancing every unit at once.
Before building a custom scenario, test the map with small forces. Check objectives, deployment areas, and opposing unit strength so that the battle remains playable and produces a clear tactical challenge.
Before you begin
Study terrain and firing distances before committing to an attack.
Save custom scenarios during testing so you can adjust balance without rebuilding them.
Keep units mutually supporting instead of scattering them across the map.
Wargame Construction Set II: Tanks! is a turn-based tactical war game and scenario-design toolkit developed and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc. for DOS. It focuses on armored warfare, giving players control over tanks and other battlefield units across user-selectable combat situations. The game combines a playable collection of scenarios with construction tools for creating maps, forces, objectives, and battle conditions. Its interface and rules favor deliberate planning rather than fast reactions, while the editor adds considerable replay value for players willing to build and test their own engagements. Reception centered on the flexibility of the construction system and the depth available to strategy players, although the presentation and learning curve could feel demanding compared with more accessible action-oriented tank games.
