How it plays

How does Warlords III: Reign of Heroes play?

The game uses an overhead, turn-based world map. Players move armies, explore wilderness, capture cities, manage production, recruit units, negotiate with opponents, and pursue scenario objectives. Cities provide resources and can be improved to support stronger forces and specialized capabilities.

When armies meet, combat shifts to a tactical battle view. Unit abilities, terrain, formation, morale, and the composition of each army affect the result. Heroes can lead forces and gain power through equipment and experience. Scenarios and campaigns provide structured goals, while victory usually depends on conquest, control of key locations, or other stated objectives.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Warlords III: Reign of Heroes?

Expand carefully rather than spreading every army across the map. Secure nearby cities and resource sites first, then improve the settlements that support your preferred army composition.

Scout before committing to a battle. Use terrain, unit roles, hero abilities, and morale to build forces suited to the opponent instead of relying only on numerical strength. Keep defensive troops near valuable cities and plan movement around the turn cycle so armies can reinforce one another.
