How it plays

How does Warlords play?

The game uses a top-down strategic map divided into terrain, cities, ruins, and other locations. Each turn, players move armies, explore sites, attack opposing forces, manage cities, and recruit troops. Cities provide income and serve as important production and defensive positions.

Victory generally comes from eliminating rivals or achieving the scenario’s control objective. Heroes can lead armies and explore dangerous locations, while terrain, unit types, morale, and army composition influence battles. The campaign develops through expansion, economic management, and progressively stronger forces.

What is the best way to play Warlords?

Secure nearby cities before pursuing distant objectives. A connected group of settlements is easier to defend and provides a more dependable income than isolated conquests.

Use heroes to explore and strengthen important armies, but avoid exposing them without adequate support. Scout enemy positions, protect productive cities, and choose battles where terrain and troop quality favor you.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Develop a stable economic base before maintaining several expensive armies.

  2. 2

Keep defensive forces in vulnerable cities and use mobile armies for exploration and conquest.

  3. 3

Review army composition before attacking; numerical superiority alone is not always decisive.
