Fun School 2: For the Under-6s
DOSEducational
How it plays
The player pilots a spacecraft through a network of star systems and visits planets, stations, and other locations. Missions and conversations provide objectives, while travel and exploration reveal further routes and assignments.
Core activities include navigating in space, fighting hostile vessels, buying and selling goods, managing equipment, and improving the ship and crew. Progress depends on completing missions and using acquired resources to reach more dangerous areas. The campaign is primarily single-player and structured around story progression rather than separate arcade stages.
Plan your run
Keep the ship supplied before leaving a safe station, and treat trading as an important way to finance repairs and upgrades. Avoid unnecessary fights when the opposition is stronger than the current equipment can handle.
Read mission text carefully and record destinations and objectives. Regularly review cargo, weapons, defenses, and available funds so that a promising contract does not become impossible because of poor preparation.
Before you begin
Save before accepting risky missions or entering unfamiliar systems.
Use trading and mission rewards to fund equipment improvements.
Check ship status and cargo frequently during longer journeys.
Whale's Voyage 2: Die Rückkehr der Armada is a DOS science-fiction role-playing game developed by Neo Software Produktions GmbH and published by Software 2000. It follows a crew travelling through a populated galaxy where exploration, commerce, combat, and narrative assignments are closely connected. The game uses a first-person cockpit view for flight and battles, while stations and planetary locations provide menus, conversations, and mission events. As a German-produced sequel, it is remembered primarily by enthusiasts of late DOS role-playing and space games. Its appeal comes from combining several traditionally separate systems rather than from arcade-speed action. The interface and presentation are distinctly period-specific, and reception has generally focused on its ambitious scope, detailed setting, and uneven accessibility.
