How it plays

How does X-COM: Apocalypse play?

The strategic layer presents Mega-Primus as a living city. The player manages bases, laboratories, workshops, craft, agents, finances, and relations with corporations and political groups while researching alien technology and responding to incidents.

Combat takes place in buildings, streets, and other city locations. Battles can be played in real time, with pauses and tactical commands available, and the player directs agents, equipment, vehicles, and captured technology. Research and manufacturing gradually expand the organization’s capabilities, while failure to control incursions can damage the city and its political support.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play X-COM: Apocalypse?

Investigate incidents promptly and keep enough trained agents and vehicles available for simultaneous emergencies. Research captured alien technology, but balance laboratories with workshops so new equipment can actually be produced.

Maintain useful relationships with city organizations and monitor finances carefully. Equip squads for the environment they are entering, use cover and doorways during tactical missions, and preserve valuable alien artifacts for research instead of selling everything immediately.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Keep spare equipment and replacement agents at the base so repeated missions do not exhaust the organization.

  2. 2

Use research and manufacturing priorities together; a completed project is more useful when the required production capacity is ready.

  3. 3

Check organizational relations and funding regularly, since strategic losses can arise outside direct combat.
