How it plays
Players guide Yoshi through side-scrolling stages, collecting coins, flowers, stars, and hidden items while carrying a baby on Yoshi's back. Enemies can be swallowed and turned into eggs, which are used to defeat foes, activate switches, and solve environmental puzzles.
The adventure is divided into worlds with several stages, bonus challenges, and boss encounters. Different babies grant special abilities, so progression often requires choosing the right passenger for a particular obstacle. Falling, taking damage, or losing the carried baby can cost a life or restart a section.
Plan your run
Explore every route rather than rushing to the goal. Flowers, red coins, and hidden areas are often placed above, below, or behind the obvious path.
Use the baby abilities deliberately: Baby Peach helps with long gaps, Baby Donkey Kong handles heavy obstacles, and Baby Wario is useful near metal objects. Keep a supply of eggs for switches and distant targets, and protect the carried baby before entering boss rooms.

Try alternative paths when a stage seems to contain missing flowers or red coins.
Use the lower screen as a positional clue when platforms or hazards continue across both screens.
Yoshi's Island DS is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Artoon and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It continues the style established by Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, placing Yoshi in charge of protecting several baby heroes while searching for Baby Luigi. The game combines traditional platforming with egg throwing, tongue attacks, ground pounds, and short aerial flutter jumps. Its two-screen presentation adds separate upper and lower play areas to many stages. Reception was generally positive for its variety, controls, and visual charm, although some critics found it less cohesive than its predecessor.
