How it plays
The player moves around Duel Academy from a top-down perspective, attends lessons, talks to students, shops for cards, and selects opponents. Story events and examinations are tied to the school calendar, while free time can be used to improve the character and prepare a deck.
Duels follow the series' turn-based rules. Players summon monsters, set spell and trap cards, manage life points, and exploit deck strategies. Winning duels earns progress toward higher school ranks and unlocks additional events, opponents, and cards.
Plan your run
Build a deck around a small number of compatible themes instead of adding every powerful card you own. Check the deck's consistency, keep a workable balance of monsters and spells or traps, and remove cards that are difficult to use.
Use school days efficiently: attend available lessons, buy or earn cards regularly, and save before major examinations or story duels. Study opponents' recurring strategies and keep removal, defense, or recovery cards that answer them.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy is a card-battle role-playing and school-life simulation game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan for the Game Boy Advance. The player creates and develops a student at Duel Academy, studies the rules of Duel Monsters, builds a deck, and challenges classmates and teachers. Its play style combines scheduled school activities, card collecting, deck construction, and turn-based duels based on the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. The game draws heavily from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX television setting, featuring characters such as Jaden Yuki and Chazz Princeton. Reception was generally favorable among series fans because of its large card pool and school progression, though the slow calendar structure and occasionally uneven computer opponents were commonly viewed as limitations.
