How it plays
The player explores Battle City from a top-down perspective, speaking with characters, entering buildings, collecting cards, and challenging duelists. Story events unlock new areas and opponents, while some encounters are required to advance the plot.
Duels use a turn-based card system. Players summon monsters, activate magic and trap cards, manage life points, and exploit attribute relationships. Victories provide experience, cards, and access to stronger opponents; deck capacity and available cards gradually expand through the adventure.
Plan your run
Build a balanced deck instead of relying on a single monster type. Include monsters with several attributes, because attribute advantages can greatly affect battle strength.
Save strong cards for difficult story opponents, and check every available opponent for possible rewards. Upgrade the deck regularly, keep enough defensive cards to survive unfavorable turns, and use the field and attribute systems deliberately rather than attacking automatically.

Editorial context
A story-focused GBA Yu-Gi-Oh! adventure with accessible duels and recognizable characters.
Its simplified rules make it approachable, but players seeking the full trading-card-game rules may find it limited.
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Sacred Cards is a role-playing and collectible card game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan for the Game Boy Advance. The player controls an original duelist who arrives in Battle City and becomes involved in the struggle surrounding the Egyptian God Cards and Marik’s Rare Hunters. Rather than reproducing the complete trading-card-game rules, the game uses a streamlined duel system with attribute advantages, a smaller card pool, and story-driven progression. Exploration, conversations, deck building, and battles are closely connected. It received mixed-to-positive attention for presenting a more accessible adventure, although experienced players often noted its simplified rules and restrictions.
