Zak McKracken
A tabloid journalist who becomes the central investigator of the alien mind-control conspiracy.
How it plays
The game uses a third-person point-and-click perspective with a verb interface, inventory, and examination commands. Players move through locations, talk to characters, collect objects, and combine or use them to solve situational puzzles.
The story alternates between several protagonists and unfolds across a connected set of locations, including areas on Earth and in space. Progress depends on discovering clues, manipulating objects, and selecting appropriate dialogue or actions. The DOS release is primarily a single-player narrative adventure.
Plan your run
Examine every new location and use conversations to identify clues before attempting combinations.

Developed and published by Lucasfilm Games, Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders is a comedic graphic adventure built with the SCUMM engine. The player follows tabloid journalist Zak McKracken as he investigates a bizarre plot involving alien mind control and travels across Earth and beyond. Exploration, inventory puzzles, conversation, and comic observation drive the experience rather than reflex action. Its multiple playable characters and globe-spanning structure give it a broader scope than many contemporary adventures. The game was well received for its humor, interface, animation, and imaginative puzzle design, although some solutions can be intentionally obscure.
