Duke Garland
The playable warrior who travels through Zeliard to defeat Jashiin and save Princess Felicia.
How it plays
Zeliard is played from a side-view perspective across connected platforming areas, underground passages, and towns. Duke Garland must fight monsters, avoid traps, find routes through each stage, and defeat bosses while searching for a way to restore Felicia.
Towns provide shops and other services where the player can improve equipment, replenish supplies, and obtain magic. Progress depends on exploring new areas, collecting money and items, and learning enemy and hazard patterns. The adventure is structured around successive regions rather than a single open world.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of enemy attacks before committing to a jump or sword strike. Many hazards are easier to handle by stopping at a safe ledge and observing their pattern rather than rushing forward.
Spend money carefully on equipment and supplies, and revisit available services when a new upgrade becomes affordable. Explore side passages for useful items, but preserve health and magic before entering boss areas.

Zeliard is a fantasy action platformer with light role-playing elements, developed by Game Arts and released for DOS by Sierra On-Line in 1990. The player controls Duke Garland, a warrior returning to the kingdom of Zeliard after the demon Jashiin turns Princess Felicia to stone. The game combines side-scrolling exploration, precise jumping, sword combat, magic, shops, and equipment upgrades. Its maze-like stages and demanding platforming give it a tougher character than a conventional action game. Zeliard was noted for its colorful presentation, music, and substantial adventure structure, although its difficulty and occasional repetition could be demanding for players unfamiliar with older computer action games.
