Return Fire

DOSAction

Return Fire is a vehicular combat and strategy game developed by Silent Software and published for DOS by Sierra On-Line. It places one or two players on opposing teams across large overhead battlefields, where armored vehicles, helicopters, and artillery compete to capture the enemy flag and destroy its defenses. The game combines direct arcade control with tactical vehicle selection. Each unit has different movement, weapons, and terrain capabilities, so success depends on choosing the right vehicle as well as aiming accurately. Its destructible environments, split-screen multiplayer, and classical music soundtrack gave it a distinctive identity. The DOS version brought the 3DO-era design to personal computers and was generally recognized as an unusual, entertaining multiplayer action title, although its pace and controls can take time to learn.
