Flik
An inventive ant and the playable protagonist, who travels through the stages to help protect his colony.
How it plays
The game presents Flik's adventure from a side-on perspective. Players guide him through platforming stages, avoiding hazards, dealing with enemies, and collecting items needed to advance.
Stages are organized as short linear sections based on locations and events from the film. Progress depends on reaching the end of each area while managing movement, jumps, attacks, and discoveries. The Game Boy Color version is designed for brief handheld play rather than an open-world structure.
Plan your run
Survey each screen before moving quickly. Look for platforms, hazards, and collectible items, and use controlled jumps rather than rushing into unfamiliar areas.
When enemies or obstacles occupy a narrow route, prioritize safe positioning and timing. Replaying earlier sections can help reveal missed items and make later progress more consistent.

A Bug's Life is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for Game Boy Color in 1998. It adapts Pixar's animated film by placing the player in control of Flik, an inventive ant attempting to protect his colony from danger. The game focuses on moving through compact stages, overcoming environmental obstacles, collecting useful items, and dealing with hostile insects. Its straightforward structure and film-based presentation made it an accessible handheld tie-in, although reception was generally modest rather than strongly acclaimed. The limited hardware produces a simpler interpretation of the film than the larger console versions.
