How it plays
The player views each stage from above and explores a maze-like spacecraft. The main objective is to locate and rescue a required number of hostages before the countdown expires, then reach the exit and defeat the stage guardian when required.
Movement, shooting, and weapon selection are central actions. Enemies appear throughout the corridors, while power-ups improve the player’s firepower. Progression comes from clearing successive areas, learning routes, rescuing enough captives, and managing limited time rather than from experience levels or permanent character statistics.
Plan your run
Learn the layout of each area and prioritize hostages that are close to the route toward the exit. Avoid unnecessary detours, because the timer is often more dangerous than ordinary enemies.
Collect stronger weapons when they are safely available, but keep moving after securing the required hostages. Clear narrow corridors before entering them, and save room around the exit or boss area for evasive movement.
Meet the cast
A space marine and one of the two rescuers sent into the alien-infested ship.
Ricky’s partner and fellow space marine, involved in the rescue mission.
Before you begin
Watch the countdown constantly; rescuing every hostage is not always the safest route.
Use corridors and corners to control enemy approaches.
Search for weapon power-ups, but do not lose time on risky detours.
Alien Syndrome is a top-down action and maze game developed by Sanritsu for the Nintendo Entertainment System and published by Tengen. It adapts Sega’s 1987 arcade game, placing the player in the role of a space marine searching an infested spacecraft for missing crew members. The game combines fast shooting, maze navigation, weapon collection, and timed rescue objectives. Its arcade roots give it a demanding pace, while the NES version adds a home-console interpretation of the original structure. Reception has generally focused on its tense action and distinctive science-fiction setting, although the strict timer and repetitive corridors can make it challenging for newcomers.
