Move the ball patiently instead of forcing difficult shots. Passing can open space and reduce the chance of losing possession, while shots are safest when taken near the basket or after the defense has been displaced.

On defense, stay between the ball handler and the basket and switch attention quickly when the ball moves. Protecting the paint and avoiding unnecessary fouls are generally more reliable than constant reaching or chasing.
