How it plays

How does Battle City play?

The game uses a top-down perspective. The objective is to destroy all enemy tanks in each stage while preventing them from reaching or shooting the eagle base.

Players move through battlefields containing brick walls, steel blocks, water, forests, and ice. Brick walls can be destroyed, while steel generally requires a powered-up shot. Enemy tanks enter from spawn areas and appear in several types with different movement and durability.

The game offers single-player and two-player cooperative play, a stage-selectable campaign structure, and a construction mode for creating custom maps. Power-ups can improve the tank or alter battlefield conditions, allowing progression through increasingly demanding encounters.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Battle City?

Protect the eagle base before chasing distant enemies. Clear only the walls needed for movement, because intact brick can provide useful cover.

Prioritize enemies approaching the base or carrying a power-up. Use forests to conceal your position, avoid firing into water, and treat ice as a movement hazard. In two-player games, divide the map rather than firing through each other’s routes.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Keep a clear route between your tank and the eagle base.

  2. 2

Destroy nearby brick walls selectively so enemies cannot use the same openings.

  3. 3

Collect power-ups when the immediate area is safe.

  4. 4

In two-player mode, coordinate which spawn area each player watches.

Editorial context

What do players highlight?

A compact, tactical tank game whose destructible maps and cooperative play remain easy to understand and difficult to master.
