How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective. In single-player stages, Bomberman clears enemies and obstacles, finds the exit, and advances through increasingly difficult areas.
Players move through a grid, place bombs, and use blast-extending, bomb-count, movement, and related power-ups. Bomb explosions destroy soft blocks and can also harm the player, so positioning and escape routes are central.
Battle modes place players in enclosed arenas. The objective is to eliminate opponents or outlast them, with changing arena layouts and power-ups adding tactical variety.
Plan your run
Break nearby soft blocks early, but do not trap Bomberman behind a bomb. Before placing a bomb, identify at least one safe route and remember that blast lines stop at solid walls.
Prioritize blast-range and bomb-count power-ups when they can be collected safely. In battles, avoid predictable corners, use chain reactions carefully, and let opponents commit to dangerous positions before attacking.
Meet the cast
The controllable hero who places bombs, clears arenas, and confronts enemies and rival players.
Before you begin
Keep an escape square available whenever a bomb is placed.
Use soft blocks to control routes, but avoid blocking your own access to power-ups.
In battles, watch the arena rather than focusing only on your own bomb.
Bomberman Party Edition is a PlayStation action and maze game developed by Hudson Soft. It presents a modernized version of the classic Bomberman formula, with players placing bombs in destructible arenas, opening routes, collecting power-ups, and defeating enemies or rivals. The package includes a single-player mode based on grid-like stages and competitive battle modes for local multiplayer. Its straightforward controls and short matches make it accessible as a party game, while later stages demand careful timing and route planning. Reception generally recognized its faithful gameplay and multiplayer appeal, although critics also noted that it offered a relatively conservative take on a familiar series rather than a major reinvention.
