How it plays
The adventure uses a third-person view for towns, fields, dungeons, and the world map. Players explore, talk to characters, solve environmental obstacles, collect items, and trigger story events. Random encounters generally begin turn-based battles in which the party chooses attacks, magic, items, summons, and defensive commands.
Characters gain levels and equipment, while materia provides spells, abilities, and stat changes. Materia can be placed in weapon and armor slots and improved through ability points. The story follows a mostly fixed route, with optional areas, hidden items, side quests, minigames, and recruitable party members adding exploration beyond the central chapters.
Plan your run
Build each active character around a clear role, but keep healing and status recovery available. Link elemental or support materia in compatible slots, and regularly check equipment for better stat growth and materia capacity.
Save before major bosses and optional areas. Exploit enemy weaknesses when known, conserve powerful summons and items for difficult encounters, and inspect new locations carefully for materia, shops, and hidden paths. Limit Breaks are especially useful when timed for boss phases.

Final Fantasy VII is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Square for the original PlayStation. It follows Cloud Strife, a former SOLDIER who joins the eco-terrorist group AVALANCHE and becomes involved in a conflict surrounding the Shinra Electric Power Company, the Planet, and Sephiroth. The game combines exploration, turn-based battles, character customization, minigames, and a large story-driven adventure. Its use of 3D environments, pre-rendered backgrounds, and cinematic full-motion sequences helped establish it as a landmark PlayStation release. Critics and players widely praised its ambitious storytelling, memorable cast, soundtrack, and accessible materia system, although some character models and translation choices received criticism. It remains one of the most influential console RPGs of the 1990s.
