How it plays
Bomberman explores a connected overworld and several themed areas from a top-down viewpoint. The main objectives are to find scattered monsters, defeat area bosses, recover bombs, and open routes to new sections.
Bombs can destroy obstacles and injure enemies, while monster abilities provide additional attacks or movement options. Encounters are real-time rather than turn-based, and progress depends on exploring rooms, learning enemy patterns, collecting upgrades, and returning to previously inaccessible places.
Plan your run
Use walls and corners to control bomb blast paths, and always leave Bomberman an escape route before placing a bomb. Explore each area carefully because monster abilities and recovered equipment can open routes that were previously inaccessible.
Against bosses, learn the timing of their attacks before committing to a bomb. Switching to a useful monster ability can be safer than relying on bombs alone, especially when an enemy moves too quickly for a standard setup.

Bomberman Quest is a Game Boy action-adventure game developed and published by Hudson Soft. It combines Bomberman’s bomb-based combat with exploration, monster battles, and light puzzle solving. After losing his bombs and having his monsters scattered across a remote world, Bomberman must recover his equipment and defeat the creatures that guard each area. The game is played from a top-down perspective across compact fields, dungeons, and boss arenas. Defeated monsters can grant abilities that expand Bomberman’s options in combat and exploration. Its unusual adventure structure made it distinct from the series’ traditional arena-focused games, and it is generally remembered as one of the more experimental Bomberman titles on the Game Boy.
