How it plays
Players explore Allucaneet from a third-person perspective, completing objectives for the kingdom while searching for the five scrolls needed to restore Lumina. Town areas provide information and services, while fields, ruins, mines, and other dungeons contain enemies, switches, puzzles, and bosses.
Musashi attacks with Lumina, jumps, uses items, and absorbs enemy abilities. Absorbed techniques can be equipped as alternate attacks. The clock advances through the adventure, affecting events and the availability of some characters and activities. Progression comes from story milestones, new techniques, improved equipment, and expanded access to previously unreachable areas.
Plan your run
Learn which enemies provide useful techniques and keep a practical selection equipped. Explore thoroughly before leaving an area, since items, shortcuts, and optional events can make later encounters easier.
Watch the time of day and return to town regularly. Save often, upgrade Musashi's equipment when possible, and study boss attack patterns rather than relying only on repeated sword strikes.

Editorial context
A colorful, characterful action RPG with satisfying ability absorption and a playful sense of humor.
The camera and occasional platforming can be awkward, but the combat and world design remain memorable.
Brave Fencer Musashi is an action role-playing game developed and published by Square for the original PlayStation. It follows Musashi, a legendary swordsman summoned to rescue the kingdom of Allucaneet after the Thirstquencher Empire steals the Binchotite-powered shield Lumina. Exploration, real-time swordplay, and light puzzle solving share equal importance. Musashi can absorb enemy techniques and use them against other foes, giving combat a flexible, experimental feel. The game is presented with colorful 3D environments, humorous characters, and a day-and-night structure. It received generally favorable attention for its lively presentation, accessible combat, and distinctive tone, although some reviewers found its camera and platforming less polished than its strongest ideas.
