How it plays
Mickey travels through a series of themed rooms and stages from a side-scrolling perspective. The main objectives are to reach each stage’s exit, collect useful items, defeat or avoid enemies, and recover the rainbow gems guarded by bosses.
Mickey attacks by jumping on enemies and can use throwable objects when they are available. Hearts increase health, stars provide points, and other items support survival. Progression depends on clearing the castle’s areas and defeating their guardians before the final confrontation with Mizrabel.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of each enemy before committing to a jump. Many threats can be bypassed safely, so avoid unnecessary contact when health is limited.
Search platforms and side areas for hearts, stars, and throwable objects. Save a safe position before boss encounters, observe attack patterns, and prioritize survival over collecting every item.

Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a side-scrolling platform game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Master System. Mickey Mouse enters a magical castle after the witch Mizrabel kidnaps Minnie Mouse, and must recover seven rainbow gems to rescue her. The game combines traditional platforming with light exploration, enemy avoidance, collectible items, and boss encounters. Its stages use distinct fairy-tale themes, including forests, libraries, toy rooms, and clockwork areas. The Master System version is a separate adaptation from the Mega Drive release, with different layouts and presentation. It was well regarded for bringing polished Disney-inspired platforming to Sega’s 8-bit hardware.
