How it plays
Players guide Trevor through a sequence of side-scrolling stages filled with platforms, stairs, enemies, traps, and bosses. The main objective is to reach Dracula's castle while choosing routes on an overworld map.
Trevor attacks with a whip and can collect sub-weapons powered by hearts. Certain stage choices determine which ally can be recruited. The active character can be switched during play, and each companion changes movement or combat possibilities. The game uses a password system rather than a save file.
Plan your run
Learn enemy patterns before committing to jumps, especially in stages with moving platforms or instant-death hazards. Preserve hearts so that useful sub-weapons are available for bosses.
Choose routes according to the ally you want. Sypha is particularly effective against groups and bosses, Grant improves mobility, and Alucard provides a ranged option. Switch characters when a section favors a different attack or movement style.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Set in 1476, it follows Trevor Belmont as he confronts Count Dracula's invasion of Wallachia. The game expands the series with branching routes, multiple recruitable allies, and distinct play styles. Trevor can be joined by Sypha Belnades, Grant Danasty, or Alucard, though only one companion can travel with him at a time. Its demanding stages, varied routes, and memorable music earned it a strong historical reputation and made it one of the NES's most respected action games.
