How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-scrolling perspective. Sonia travels through six linear stages, defeating monsters, collecting hearts and power-ups, and reaching a boss at the end of each area. Her primary weapon is a whip, while subweapons provide alternate attacks when enough hearts have been collected.
Players jump across platforms, avoid hazards, and search for routes through castle environments. Sonia can improve her whip through collected upgrades, and some encounters require careful spacing rather than rapid attacks. The game is a single-player campaign with no documented multiplayer mode.
Plan your run
Keep a safe distance from enemies and use the whip at its effective range rather than rushing into contact damage. Collect hearts whenever possible so that subweapons remain available for difficult enemies and bosses.
Learn each stage's enemy placement before spending health or special weapons. Upgrade the whip when the opportunity appears, and reserve stronger attacks for bosses or cramped rooms where normal jumps are difficult.

Castlevania Legends is a 1997 action-platform game developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Nagoya and published by Konami for the Game Boy. It presents a gothic adventure in which Sonia Belmont, the first known woman of the Belmont bloodline, confronts Dracula and the forces surrounding him. The game uses side-scrolling exploration, whip combat, subweapons, and platforming across a small set of castle-themed stages. Its monochrome presentation and compact level design reflect the Game Boy hardware, while its story attempts to expand the series mythology. Reception was mixed: critics and players generally recognized its atmosphere and playable combat, but often considered the visuals, controls, and level design less polished than other Castlevania releases. It was later treated as non-canonical by the series timeline.
